SUNDAY 7th OCTOBER
Step into Clyde -- Spring 10.30am to 2pm
The beautiful township of Clyde adds another
chapter to its exciting history with its monthly
market programme which is set to begin this Sunday.
For one Sunday every month, from October through
to March, Clyde's' historical precinct comes under the
spotlight with an extravaganza of things for people of all
ages to enjoy.
Based on the concept of Community Market Days, the
team behind the organisation of the 'Clyde on Sunday'
event, have added their own twist to the idea, put a
timetable in place based somewhat on the seasonal
produce available in the area, brought in a range of
musical entertainment, added in food, wine, good
company, and activities for the children to enjoy, and
VOILA! Clyde on Sunday has evolved.
And what better way to spend one of Central Otago's
beautiful Sundays than at Clyde enjoying this monthly
event which runs from 10:30 a.m to 2:00 p.m, on the first
Sunday of every month.
Looking over the season ahead, spokesperson David
Ritchie says their ultimate aim is to have a special day
which both children and adults can enjoy, introducing
lots of different activities and different themes over each
"This Sunday, people can come along and purchase
products from over 20 market stalls ranging from smoked
salmon, olive oil, eggs and cheese, through to specialty
breads and local wines."
"As we go through the seasons, these will change
depending on availability," Ritchie said. "Our food this
time will include a sausage sizzle and also feature lamb
burgers which we thought was timely with the lambing
season currently underway, while at a later event we will
have items such as peonies and fruit for sale reflecting
what is available at that time of the year."
Entertainment is an integral part of 'Clyde on Sunday'
with both adults and children catered for.
Live Music from artists Matt La Hood, Anna Robinson
and Shane Gilchrist will play throughout this Sunday's
programme, while the children's activities will include kite
making, kite decorating and sand saucers.
Ritchie said that the children's programmes run last
year proved to be very popular and they expect a similar
response this year.
"For a small entry fee, children get to be involved in
fun activities and also get to take their creations home
Proceeds from the 'Clyde on Sunday' event will all be
put towards things that will benefit the Clyde community.
Ritchie said things currently being considered
include free Wi-Fi in the town, contributing towards
the upgrading of some of the community's facilities,
and perhaps purchasing items to add to the festive
atmosphere in the town come December.
